Hi all,

I'm looking for a budget (£120 or less, used) standard zoom lens for canon EF-S.

I'm looking at the EF-S 17-85mm USM IS, but I'm wondering if IQ would be worse than the 18-55mm IS STM.

And before anyone suggests it, the 18-135mm USM and 15-85mm USM are not within my budget.

EDIT: I would also consider a 3rd-party lens.

The 17-85mm get a bad reputation.  But my copy was very good especially with modern in camera correction (something that was not available when the lens showed up on the market with the EOS 20D).  That being said, the 18-55mm STM will still be sharper, and have better IS (4 stops vs 3 stops).  And of course the STM will be quieter.
