Ever look at a raw Q2M image?

The Q2M has no color filter array, which means that you can look at the raw data and see a realistic image. I had to do that for another project , which I'll be talking about here in another thread.

Here is a sample image:

This looks quite different from the JPEG preview image in the file. The distortion is corrected in the JPEG preview image. The vignetted corners are eliminated in the process of the distortion correction.

I got this image in the follow way:

  • Loaded DNG file into RawDigger.
  • Exported as B&W TIFF, unscaled.
  • Imported into Matlab.
  • Scaled into the range [0,1].
  • Applied a gamma of 2.2
  • Downsampled to 1000 pixels in width, using bicubic interpolation.
  • Scaled into the range [0,255].
  • Exported as JPEG.

Here is the image converted by ACR with default settings except for an exposure pull.
