Purpose of v.mode button on Panasonic G9

Hi all. I'm trying to figure out what the v.mode button on the side of the G9 viewfinder hump does. The user guide offers just one explanation on Page 42:

Press [V.MODE].
• The magnification factors that can be switched between differ
depending on the [LVF/Monitor Disp. Set] setting in the [Custom]
([Monitor / Display]) menu.
– [ ] (Viewfinder Style): Two levels
– [ ] (Monitor Style): Three levels

WIth the camera in A mode, when I press the V.Mode button, nothing seems to happen with regard to magnification. What's getting magnified? What am I missing?

Thanks,

ALan
