Re: Battery for M50

I've never found an aftermarket battery to be as good as an OEM battery. I've also never purchased a new OEM battery as they're ridiculously expensive. For the LP-E12, I have 2 original Canon and 11 aftermarket for use in an M50 and M100. With the LP-E12 batteries being fairly small and light, I typically carry at least 4 spares. Although a lot of aftermarket batteries claim higher amp- or watt-hours than OEM, they don't seem to last any longer than the original Canon battery.

Powerextra LP-E12 (own 7): I've used Powerextra batteries over the past 10+ years in my M-series as well as my old T3i and all batteries have performed very well. They're a little harder to find, especially as bare batteries without a charger included. This set comes with a 3-bay charger that accepts a USB-C cable.

Wasabi LP-E12 (own 2): typically reliable but not as long-lasting as OEM. I have this set .

BM LP-E12 (own 2) : These were never reliable. They do not show an accurate level on the camera's battery meter, they don't hold a charge and don't last a long as any other brand I've tried. After 3 years of extremely minimal use, one of my BM batteries no longer charges at all.

There are many, many other brands available. I've never been afraid to use third-party batteries in my Canon cameras. Be sure to read any reviews before buying. It's less common with SLR's (more so in point & shoots), but sometimes batteries aren't as compatible as OEM like not showing the battery level on the camera or even not working at all.
