I would expect them to be closely related under the body shell. Biggest difference is the UI implementation. S1R has lots of knobs, buttons, and dials, and tilting touchscreen. SL2 has no tilting screen, few buttons and menus driven interface. It's with which you are more comfortable.

SL2 should be better with M adapted lenses, and a subscription website claims the SL lenses are 'better' on it. YVMV.
