Question about Apple Proraw and Lightroom

Hope this is in the right forum; please move it to the right one if it's not.

I shoot with my iPhone 12 plus exclusively in Proraw unless I'm documenting something when the quality's not important.  I'm currently working through some pictures I took on a recent trip, and I was very careful to make sure that every single one of them was shot in Proraw.

Here's the weird thing. I prefer to work on them one by one, so I airdrop them to my iPad, open the Photos app on my iPad and then import one picture into Lightroom, work on it, export it, rinse and repeat. Most of the time - probably about 90 per cent - it imports the picture correctly as a DNG file and then I can do whatever processing I want. The other ten per cent of the time, it imports a JPG, even though the picture in the Photos app is tagged as a RAW file.

Hardly the end of the world, as the JPGs themselves aren't bad, but if I want to do anything beyond basic adjustments, then a JPG isn't much use.

Anyone have any experience with this and know what's going on?

Thanks!
