The review wisely IMO considers the challenges to getting good images with any 800mm lens.

One of the interesting details indirectly identified in the review is - does the quality of tripod matter?

Short answer - probably yes.

Longer answer they recommend VR on on a tripod - and mention up to 10 seconds for the image to stabilise on their test equipment.

They use a Manfrotto 055 tripod 115 3 way pan & tilt head in their standard test procedure.

Sorry - this level of tripod/head support I regard as inadequate for even a 100mm focal length - very distinctly inadequate at 400mm - and seriously inadequate with a 2x on the 180-400 at 800mm equivalent.

The test is with a Z7II - not initially clear due to a typing error in the text - clarified by zooming in on one of the images.

VR of 5.5 stops is mentioned as achievable hand holding - with 4 stops consistently obtained to a good standard at 1/60 and 1/15 possible - with the caveat hand held VR results  vary from photographer to photographer.

No obvious signs of possible PF flare were detected.  My experience is PF flare can be an issue on the 300 PF - and is a none issue with the later technology 500 PF.

In lots of ways good photography is much more about how equipment is used rather than anything else.
