But on your camera the electronic shutter takes about 1/30 second to make a sweep. You can easily move the camera a lot in that time, without realizing it.

I don't know what is causing your particular problem, but I think you need to reconsider the possibility of poor technique.

I am open to changing settings and technique. Although it takes 1/30 of a second to write to the image buffer, should the shutter speed not determine image exposure time?

That's not the buffer write time. That's the time it takes the shutter to sweep the whole sensor. Unfortunately, the number was erroneous, so that blew another hole in my argument. Forget it.
