What is your price guess for the R10?
For comparison:
The Nikon Z50 currently goes for US$860 body-only and US$1,000 with lens.
The M50 II currently goes for US$700 with lens.
I wondered about that, as well. If Canon chooses to "Rebelize" the R10 it will be inexpensive, the lack features. I'm hoping they don't revive the "cripple hammer" from cameras past.
My feeling is that the rebel R is coming after the R7 & R10 and the R10 is more of an enthusiast camera in the $1000 range. I’m guessing there will be a viewfinderless ultra budget model coming later.
I have a feeling the R10 and R7 will be bookend models in the RF APS-C camera range. It makes a lot of sense to me for them to do this. This way neither camera competes with the other and two distinct groups are served properly. I think there will be a mid range crop R coming later. At a price point of $1k, or more, an APS-C camera these days had better have IBIS and something more than a recycled sensor that is 4-5 years old. Canon will get eviscerated if they do this, IMO. Plus, I don't think they want the R system to be hit with this type of bad press.
From looking at the recent lower-end rebels it seems like recycled tech sells just fine. I’d imagine price is the biggest factor in that segment.
I agree. Recycled tech can sell well if priced accordingly. I just don't see a price of $1k+ for 4-5 year old APS-C tech is something that will sell well or get good press. Especially when seeing what $1k gets in the Fuji system or even Sony. So far, Canon has not had a 6D/2 type of debacle in the R system and I think they don't want this stigma again as it would cheapen the image of the R system. At least I hope they don't.
If the actual camera name is R10 it can be taken so many ways. Is it an M10 type camera, a xxD type camera etc. R7 is unambiguous as to what it represents.
It might be that the only thing that is recycled in the sensors of the R7 and R10 is the number of MP’s. Who knows. Maybe we just have a couple more days until we find out.
