"Luminance range" mask from ACR as an actual layer mask in PS?

I recently discovered the luminance range mask in ACR. Amazing stuff! But, it seems I must choose what I do with the generated mask while still in ACR, which is limited to mostly "exposure processing" operations. I'd love to use the generated mask as an actual layer mask (so I could just hide the portion of the layer, for example), or alternately to have the same range selection power available at layer mask creation time, outside of ACR. Is there any way to do what I'm trying to?
