Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM L II EVF stabilization
10 months ago
Hi all,
I'm looking for a good 70-200mm f/2.8 but I like to try before I buy so I rented some lenses.
Last weekend I rented the Sigma 70-200mm Sports. A great lens and I was really impressed with it.
Today I rented the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM L II. Optically, the Sigma and Canon shouldn't be too far apart with each lens having its own strong and weak point. So far, it disappoints me. It disappoints me to an extent that I first doubted my own skills and next if the lens is completely OK.
I remember from the Sigma that once IS(OS) was stabilizing the lens, the EVF of my M50 was stable as well. I was able to take some decents shots at 200mm with a shutter of 1/50, which I found not bad for someone handling a big and heavy 70-200mm for the first time.
With the Canon, I don't have this. IS is of course switched on on the lens. In menu it isn't available (can't recall if it was with the Sigma), which is normal according to Canon when using EF lenses. But the EVF is never stable and I get the feeling that most of the photo I take on slowish shutter speed have some extent of motion blur.
I do hear something get in motion if I switch IS on (from off position) with my ear against the lens, but that doesn't mean that it's also working properly of course.
So the question is: should the IS system of this Canon 70-200mm also stabilize the EVF? I think it should because the EVF is using the same sensor, so why shouldn't it stabilize the EVF? Could it be that the IS system is faulty?
