EF 100 f2 compared to EF-M 55-200mm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any experience with using the EF 100mm f2 lens on an M body?  Even better if you've also used the EF-M 55-200mm lens for some comparison between the two.  I wasn't sure if the 55-200mm was going to work for my needs, but got it on a great deal several months back.  Sure enough, for my photography I find it nearly always falling into one of these issues -

  • Inside / event use case - With the slower aperture and the longer focal length, I'm quickly cranking the ISO up too high for me.  In these situations I often find I get much better final results if I use the Sigma 56mm and just crop in later.  When I try the EF-M in this situation I usually end up shooting it around 100 - 135mm.
  • Wildlife - In this situation, the 200mm still isn't really long enough, and I'm not seeing the image quality to do serious cropping to make up the difference.

As you can see, I don't do much in the way of tripod shooting where I can get away with stopping down for better image quality or slowing the shutter speeds.

Before pulling the trigger on this change, I just wanted to get a sense of people's experiences on the 100mm f2 and if there's anything that would cause me to rethink my approach.  If you've used it, or both, let me know!

Thanks!
