I support the above approach, depending on the access you have to the rink or, to the skaters. Changing lenses coul mean to miss a good shot or 2.
For me this option didn't work well enough when we did these active birthday parties.

Another approach for more flexibility could be:

  • EF-M 11-22mm for the groups shots 
  • EF-M 55-200 for portrait like head shots and getting closer to the skaters.

However, both option require cranking up ISO settings to the max unles you can make use of a flash. This and some denoizing in post did work better for me on many occasions.
