The manufacturing accuracy of SD card readers in the Mac varies somewhat. In some cases, like my Mac Studio, higher pressure is needed to fully insert the card. This causes the card to slide only about 1 mm deeper into the reader, and only then is contact made with the second row of pins on the card.

If the card is inserted only up to the first stop point, as happened in my case, there is only contact with the first pin row. The card still works, but only with UHS-I speed!

I now always have to hold my Mac Studio a bit when I insert the card with slightly higher pressure, because it is so slippery.

Yes, thanks for the update.  A simple click-in, click-out design like cameras would solve this problem.
