I've been using Lr for several years. Not just for editing but organizing.

And for the most part,, I "get it" (the organizing aspect). I really do.

But,, I'm really trying to get rid of pictures on my computer that I just don't need or want.

So, lets say I take pictures of the dog, Rex. I edit them, and export them as JPG's into a folder called "REX". The REX folder is in "my Pictures" on my computer.

At some point,, I go into that folder,, and delete some of those pictures in that REX folder.

I don't do this thru Lr,, I'm just in the folder in "my Pictures",, and deleting some of those pics in that file.

so, have i now messed up Lr??? I mean,, does Lr even know those edited pictures are in a folder on my computer,,,, ???

When you look at your LR library, do you see the jpegs?  If yes, then you should delete the unwanted images through LR.  If not, then you can delete them outside of LR, because LR doesn't know they exist.
