I get that there are two distinct menu systems/OS's in Video and Photo, but I don't understand why there are certain differences between features in Video and Photo mode on the R5c.

For example:

1-Why no "spot focus" area in Video like there is in Photo? (this is the tiny little square option for the focus area).

2-Why are there fewer white balance presets--no shade or overcast/cloud preset, for example. I realize you can preset to a specific colour temp, but still, it's convenient to have the shade or overcast presets.

3-Why no ability to assign functions to certain buttons, specifically the joystick? (It would be nice, for example, to use the centre button to reset the AF area to the middle of the frame...I realize that the cancel button does that...)

4-Why no animal tracking?

Perhaps I'm overlooking something.

Chris, regarding the menu, it's my understanding that since the R5c is actually a 'cinema camera' it's simply following the menu system in their other cinema cameras like the C70.

Personally I haven't found the items you've mentioned to be a deterrent or handicap in shooting video, which is what I use the R5c for. I used the same smaller AF square in the R5 as I do in the R5c, so no biggie for me.

As for WB, since I shoot 8K RAW, this is a non-issue. But even shooting 8K in mp4, I either use a preset like outdoor or AWB or a direct K temp to really zero in for difficult lighting. I never really found myself using 'shady' or 'overcast' settings.

I do agree that the joystick or even the back rotating dial should have been available for presets, but there are workarounds that are OK.

Regarding item 4, the R5c uses the same video AF system as exists in the C70 and that's actually an earlier version of what is used in the R5. Again, since I own both cameras (I'll be selling my R5), I see no significant difference in AF performance. I've shot videos at the zoo and the lack of animal AF actually never seemed to be an issue in achieving perfect focus. Similarly I haven't found the lack of IBIS to be an issue at all when using OIS equipped lenses. Even my non-OIS 50mm is fine when using the electronic IS.
