What obviously happens is that Canon widens the spread between low tier and high tier equipment in terms of performance and price. Both is getting more expensive at the same time. At present they do not have a reasonable mid range product selection for the advanced amateur. For that you have to go to Nikon, and hope they are still in the market a few years down the road. What I am talking about is for example a reasonably inspiring camera kit sub 2000us/eur that does not come with a crap lens or a 10 year old sensor design.

It is allways just a question of time with all manufacturers. True that Canon now has this gap. EOS M is a sub par especially due to the poor lens choice and their quality.

Rumors talk about R7, that would solve it.

R and RP are still great cameras and the choice of 2nd hand EF L lenses is absurdly wide, so finding a right set of <2000 Eur camera + lens kit is an easy task for someone who just wants to shoot.
