Canon knows that optimizing for cornersharpness is optimizing for something which almost never happens in real life

Yea landscape photography is def not a thing

Just one question, you personally bring a ladder to your landscape shots? I am 180 cm or about 5ft11" and I have a near constant experience of whatever is in the corners being out of focus due to the near limit of DOF and that is primarily because the ground in front of me is not flat and not sloping away from me.

Don't know what kind of landscapes you shoot but I generally shoot landscapes with DoF as deep as possible. Whether the ground slopes is irrelevant. Stuff like mountains and trees are high off the ground

Could you kindly post a landscape where the corners mattered?

I can't.... you have decided that corners don't matter to everybody, so no such picture exists.

For that much money I want nice corners.

I once went to see an exhibition of Ansel's photography. These were original prints done by him. At any reasonable viewing distance, they all looked great, but not being able to resist peeping close at them I was sort of surprised that they were a bit grainy and sharpness was a bit lacking when viewed up closer.

I'm sure Ansel could have made good prints from the cheap 24-105. He'd surely shoot RAW and then carefully post process. Doing landscapes, he likely wouldn't be overly concerned about straight lines and surely wouldn't have done as much distortion correction (or possibly none at all) as Canon bakes into the JPGs. So, he would have learned the weaknesses of the lens and worked around them. Instead, we sit around here and carp about the weaknesses instead of taking pictures and working around the weaknesses of our equipment (and everything has some weaknesses). Good thing the internet didn't exist back then, or we might not have had all that great photography created

I did buy the lens and spent time testing it.

It is not just the corners.  That lens is all over the place !

I should have believed the internet reviews.
