But one thing I am sure on 100%. The EVFs will become more and more advanced and the OVFs more and more expensive . This is clearly seen on the K3/III price. And I am sure that I will survive with my Pentax cameras, but they will be dead at the same moment when I am gone. My kids/grandchildren, whenever they grab my camera(s), they are willing to use only LV mode. When I point them to look through the OVF, they reply: are you kidding grandpa .
I have same experience with my children and grandchildren. I can not even give them recent bodies and lenses and expect them to be used. Regarding OVF and pricing. The new OVF is often stated seemingly as THE main factor for K3-III pricing.
Not by Ricoh Imaging AFAIK, so take it with a spoonful of salt.
There are many other things which surely contributed to the pricing: the new AF system, the mirror mechanism, and even not so obvious ones like an expectation of selling lower volumes (which you're mentioning below). Introducing a new software and hardware platform (Linux-based, like GRiii's) added to the cost, too.
While it adds cost I can not believe it is adding hundreds of dollars to the price people were hoping to pay. I think people were looking for a camera that was competitive and performed at a certain level and were offered that camera at a price cameras at that level are introduced at. Extensive development costs for a relatively low volume probably play a big part as well.
