Seems like a strange complaint. The Canon RF24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM is $900 and the Canon RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM IS USM is $400. So you seem to be unhappy with getting what you pay for.

When I say terrible wide angle IQ, just look at the lens correction menu, you can't turn off the lens distortion correction. So shoot RAW, open the file in Lightroom, turn the lens distortion correction off, boom, disappointment. It's almost like as if they took some elements from a 10mm fish eye lens, put it in front of this lens, and forcefully ask the camera processor to crop & stretch to "compensate".

Let's compare the $1300 Canon RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM

with about 4% barrel distortion at 24mm with the $400 Canon RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM

with about 11% barrel distortion at 24mm. High but not bad for an inexpensive lens.

Note that the front portion of the design is nothing like a fisheye design.
There are simply fewer elements in this less expensive design.

Note that in both cases distortion increases rather smoothly off-axis which makes software correction less difficult.
