Thanks for the answers guys.
I just tried on my M10, it's the same, the focus is not really spot on, I still need to fine tune it using digital zoom and yes, the M10 still retains the focus peaking when zooming.
So did the M100. It's the later models that don't. Magnification send to cut down the range that lights up focus peaking, but it shows up very clearly that it's only responding to the plane parallel to the short side of the sensor.
It's a little tricky to get a good focus using non af lenses. I guess for me that'll be my first and last full manual lens :-D.
If does depend on the lens, but I find that scale focussing is often quicker and accurate enough with wideangle lenses at moderate apertures and distances greater than a metre or so. The depth of field scale is a good indicator of how accurately you need to estimate or measure the distance. I need to check the accuracy of the index point (stars at full aperture is a very precise test) and avoid stuff like quick portraits at f/1.4, I find focus peaking too slow fit precise work as it gives quite hazy limits, and it takes time to find the best point between them, but practice makes perfect. Don't give up.
Thank you. I'm keeping the lens for now, since my 50 1.4 is broken. But I'm probably gonna be looking for a used Sigma 56 1.4 in the long run.
