Thanks for your input. I am glad to hear you don't feel compelled. Being compelled is generally not pleasant.

I see no signs of a cult mentality here. Many have described both advantages and disadvantages, and no one has harshly criticized anyone for using an EVF to my knowledge. I am open to and actively seeking information that will help me use and enjoy an EVF. So far, it's not looking good for me with EVFs, but that's a personal choice and I respect anyone who chooses differently.
I agree that using this technology is a skill and it's entirely possible I've failed because I'm not yet good enough at it.

To be honest, I assumed I would like using a modern EVF much more than I did. I even have specific plans to purchase a mirrorless camera. They have indeed come a long way. But it's nothing I enjoy looking through. Looking at the scene (including with one eye through the viewfinder) is probably the most important part of photography for me. Sometimes I even "do photography" without a camera. Sometimes I use an analog camera. This recent experience with the R6 has put my mirrorless plans on hold.

It's quite possible these EVFs are not for me now and never will be. And totally obvious to me that they definitely are great for others.

Things could change.

Take it easy,

Matt

I have, and I don't feel compelled to pretend I don't like them. This forum is developing a cult mentality. A viewfinder is a tool, and using one is a skill, regardless of whether it's a EVF, SLR, rangefinder, sports finder, or any other interation that has existed since the dawn of photography.
