Sorry guys (Alex, Jeremie),

I do not believe that the modern EVF are so "poor"! Actually, this part of the (mirrorless) cameras went through an immense development in the last years, especially for the only purpose, to make EVF as good/attractive as OVF! I hope I will have an opportunity to check some modern EVF sometimes .

Development, improvement... sure. From bad to not so bad to pretty good.

On the other hand, as an analogy, do small sensors, i.e., 1/1.7" on Pentax Q-S1, give the same quality result as a FF sensor on a Pentax K-1? Will they ever?

Doug

Well Doug, it's not quite like that. My 24" PC IPS monitor (and a 55" OLED TV) give me absolutely perfect pictures. And both are just HD (2k) devices. O.K. they would correspond to a 6 Mp EVF, and currently there are "only" some 3.6 Mp (or so) EVFs. So, not quite as good as HD devices. Using your example, they are like APS-C versus FF sensors. So, not quite as bad .

At least your TV can show correctly HDR content

An OVF can show a range of light intensity from total darkness up to "the Sun" (not desirable of course for the latter, put this in the "cons" column), not sure how far EVFs can get before draining the battery in a few seconds. It's just NOT the same thing, and it is not the same thing as saying they're bad.

Regarding the "immense development", I imagine most of these came from developments done for TVs and mobiles, because I doubt people invented OLED and HDR and 120 fps screens thinking about viewfinders (if I'm wrong, my apologies).
