I would recommend small "over the shoulder" Patagonia Atom Sling

Very comfy, weatherproof, compact but enough room even for my Canon R + phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses

I have the predecessor, the Patagonia Hawaiian Sling. Good bag. Great bag even. (Mine’s been to Burning Man many times and otherwise survived a life of casual neglect and abuse. I agree that the Atom slots nicely into a travel bag role.

However, it’s one of many that would serve nicely. Consider also the Peak Design Sling (3L or 5L), the Moment sling, the Peter Mckinnon bag that converts from sling to backpack (Don’t have it, and don’t need it, but I am intrigued by it), the Seal Line waterproof hip pack (my go to for on-the-water, dust and weather, recently complemented by the Watershed duffle) the micro light Sea-to-Summit backpack that rolls into a tiny peach sized ball, or the sling version of that pack that I don’t have… The list goes on and on. And on. Each serves a unique roll. Yet all are remarkably similar in function.

When it comes to bags there’s seldom, if ever, one definitive answer — and the same answers keep rising up every time the topic is introduced. I cited the Original Benzer pouch earlier because I think that it, or a similar product, is uniquely suited to the problem proposed by the OP.

But if not, I try to provide ideas rather than specific products because… when you get down to brass tacks, bags of one type are pretty similar to others of that type… and one bag (or bag type) doesn’t suit all.

In fact, one bag doesn’t suit me. Combined with the years I spent working for an outdoor retailer, the result is my bag full of bags (in active use) and bigger bag full of bags (waiting to be called back to service). Neither my neice or nephew has purchased a school bag or a piece of luggage in their lives. “Let’s see what Uncle jeff has laying around.”

I prefer ideas to specifics because often, maybe even most of the time, we can get by with something we already have. If not, I hope to spark ideas without sending anyone down my path of a “perfect bag for every situation.”

Because here lies madness.
