That's an interesting point. Does the barrel correction even matter given the resolution potential of a 1" optic that's already being "stretched" if you will? I'll say the reviewing the samples DPR put up, not really. They nailed it on both counts that the G5X II isn't exactly a resolution king, and, the lens corners aren't being impacted with any significance by the barrel corrections.

The G5X lens is no worse than the G7X one for sharpness given a decent copy and better than any of the 1" panasonics . The whold "G5X-II lens is soft" thing is a total myth - it just would seem that Canons sample variation for lenses is still as lousy as ever it was in the early DSLR / Digital Ixus / S30/40/70 days . I`ve witnessed a real bad G5X-II but mine is bang on as was my G7X Mk1

I`ve no idea what`s going on in the DPR sample or their copy of the camera but I get very sharp images uncorrected from mine even at the edges just like the G7X but then I`m using a proper RAW converter and not Lightroom which adds all sorts of hidden stuff behind the scenes which you can`t turn off .
