I spoke with Canon tech on a different issue related to the internal mic. As a result of all the grayed out, disabled mic settings, there’s no way to enable the low cut filter for wind noise. As a workaround I was able to make up a bit of a dead cat rig for the mic. Tech support thought this might be a firmware glitch as it seemed like a setting like that should have been available per the manual.

I have run into the same problem with grayed out settings. Tech support had an R5c in hand as we spoke and he'd encountered the same issue, but he'd claimed that changing to MP4 allowed those settings, I have not tried that as I would rather not shoot in MP4. But despite that, there is no setting—grayed out or otherwise—that would allow the internal mic to be turned off, and that, IMO, is an egregious oversight.

I did notice that with an external mic on board, and with the Audio status page engaged, it appears that the internal mic is being directed to a separate track, either 3 or 4. I will have to check again tomorrow. But if I am correct in that assertion, one should be able to mute that track in post. And if that's not the case, audio might turn out to be a disaster.

The tech is incorrect. Changing to MP4 does nothing to change the grayed out mic selections, they all remain inactive.
