Re: Are cheap old lenses still IQ-competitive with midrange new?

I am not much into longer lenses. Have only two that fall in that category. The Canon EF-S 55-250mm 4-5.6 IS STM like Alan also uses.  15-12 elements-groups.  There is a small gain when I use it for FF with a Kenko 1.4x tele extender on the A7RII, 350mm then at the long end.  Tripod also needed for that gain. I prefer to use it without the Kenko. Even then it is more likely that I put the Minolta MD I 200mm 4.0 in the bag. I simply make better images with it.  The  Canon EF-S cost me 160 Euro secondhand, the MD 45 Euro.  The Canon is smaller and 100grams lighter, has AF so more suited for moving subjects. I'm not so interested in birds etc so wonder whether I keep it.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst
