Hi everyone,
This is my first post here and I'm excited to join the community!
Originally, I was going to post a question about using older FD lenses with my M50 body. I already have an EF-M to FD adapter and I'm using a couple of Magnicons (sold by Black's in Canada) and a Canon "Nifty Fifty" f/1.8 50mm. They work great on the M50 and the only real "problem" is that obviously the camera doesn't know what lens is on it, so the metadata on the images doesn't have info on the aperture or focal length used on each shot. Of course, if I use the 15mm-45mm kit lens, it records it, and when I borrow any of my son's Canon EF lenses, those work as well (I also have the EF-M to EF adapter).
My original question was going to be if there was a way within the camera to note the aperture and focal length when using a manual lens. But the only item I can find in the camera is a star rating for each photo. Nothing like tags or anything of that nature.
However, while typing out my question, I started thinking. And thinking took me to Ebay and Kijiji and I wound up buying an EF-S 55mm-250mm zoom lens. That, combined with my kit lens pretty much covers everything - except dead on 50mm. My thought is to try them out, see if I like them better than my older FD lenses and go from there.
So, in a way, this forum helped me without anyone ever knowing it! And you already helped me spend a bit of money (the EF-S wasn't expensive - only $100).
But if anyone does have a trick or technique for recording their settings while using manual lenses, I'd be very interested. The only options I have come up with so far is either putting a note in my iPhone manually, or carrying around an actual paper pad. Neither are really very good options.
Thank you so much!
Rick
