After I got this lens, I found I use my 7D mark ii more than I expected, even though I have multiple cameras, including Canon, Sony, full frame and crop. It is as sharp as my best L lenses when used on crop camera. When I don't have bokeh objective, this lens is the choice. It has the same contrast of the best Canon lenses. You can see the eyelash clearly, better than my Tamron 28-200 and 70-180 on Sony cameras. Full frame can be better, but with this sharpness and contrast, the crop cameras can be very close.
i played with this lens a few years ago, and it was ok - nothing close to a "L" lens. i really never warmed up to non-L lenses, i always saved until i had the fund and bought the "L" lens i wanted. the only non-L i have is EF 85 f1.8, which i find quite decent. i kept using my "L" lenses on my 40D when i had it with great result. i know your post is about 18-135 but i just wanted to inject another perspective, hope you don't mind
