Is it worth my while getting a 50mm prime lens if I already have a 18-140 zoom lens?

I realise that prime lens is generally better but do I stand to gain anything by purchasing it if I already have a zoom lens that covers this focal length? Cheers.

Your gear list shows that you already have a 35mm prime. How much use do you get out of that lens?

When I bought my D90. I immediately bought the 35mm f/1.8 DX to go with the 18-105mm kit lens. No regrets and it's still my #1 prime lens (and in contention for being my #1 lens overall). I also bought a 50mm prime, after seeing that I was using the kit zoom at longer focal ranges than I had thought. Again, no regrets on my part. A zoom plus primes kit serves me well.

If your 35mm prime isn't getting much use because you find your 18-140mm to be "good enough" at ~35mm, then I wouldn't expect you to get much use from a 50mm prime either. On the other hand, if you find your 35mm prime to be useful, then I'd expect that you'd find a 50mm prime to be useful as well.
