Mini Challenge #663 "Bikes, Blades and Boards"

Hi NewGuy,

10 exhibits featuring our last serious ride of 2021 - a 27.5 miler including an ascent of the Wrynose Pass in The Lake District, Cumbria (1.6 miles long, 837 feet of climbing, 25% max incline, Category 3 rated). We invite viewers to share a small part of the journey with us...

The approach involves some road and some gravel track riding - and, of course, heavy rain.

The decision point, do we take the hard way, or the harder way? We opt for the harder way.

Karen’s bike has a minor technical snag at the start line - Phil pulls ahead!

Phil's early lead doesn’t last long - Karen's put the hammer down and prepares to overtake.

Passing this sign marks the point where the **** really starts hitting the fan.

For the next kilometre the Pain-O-Meter needle will get bent well back…

By the time I (Phil) reached here, I was hanging on. I saw Karen high above me climbing hard from right to left - as if on a sky bound elevator. I could only gasp, ‘Ohhh - ****!’.

The climb-out is relentless, it gives us nothing - headwinds and rain add to the experience.

The second ‘crux section’, time to dig-in again.

Is it a bird? Is it a train wreck? No, it’s Phil - punching the air!! I have absolutely nothing left.

(The sting in the tail was a similar climb-out to end the ride - until then ignorance was bliss).

We hope you enjoyed this as much as we did. You can find more about the Wrynose - Here.

Karen has already planned a couple of hard climbs for later this year. It's going to hurt... :-D

Stay safe and well...

Phil and Karen

Well this is the best I can do I'm afraid on a very windswept misty day. Not sure about entries but here are some exhibits, which may become entries if I can make up my mind!! Stay safe and well. John

Each spring we spend a couple of months sailing off remote Ocracoke Island. On the sort of windy days that keep our boat safely in its slip, a few people head out into Pamlico Bay with what I think are called "kite boards" - basically a small surfboard looking thing, with a steerable wing-type parachute. They are very fast. This guy was jumping way high over the gazebo at the end of this dock. Near suicidal, IMO, but he did it several times and lived.

Yeah, I thought so, too. Then I found one. In your vast archives, I'm sure you have something, Bill.

Geg, I just checked as I know I took photos of my son snowboarding but just can't find them :-(
Well, I had very little for the last "Street Moment" challenge either. I guess it's mostly an urban thing and that lets us out.
Yes I don't like gong to town!

Both are nice! TheLS3 is 6.2 liters. Too much power is just enough....
