Excellent, Tom.

I would prefer LibRaw as an improvement upon dcraw, although I guess I already have it in the form of RawDigger, unless Iliah or Alex tell me different.

I have noticed that color rendering is without red (pink?) highlights, compared to your otherwise excellent first attempt:

Re: Superpixel debayering: Sigma Camera Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)

So I believe there have been some improvements. LibRaw includes dcraw but I don't know the version. The whole LibRaw directory is 14mb on my machine, including the 2.8mb downloaded zip file. So it is very economical in terms of disc space.

Overall, I think LibRaw is good enough for mainstream use as a superpixel deBayering tool, at least by me, here in the DPR Sigma forum.

I also started a similar thread in the Leica forum, since at least one Leica Forum member commented in the past about superpixel deBayering.

What seems to me great about this method is the ease with which the finest details and textures can be brought out by sharpening, without much danger of halo.

Also, it seems to me that color moire issues are less or maybe even non-existent, compared to downsizing standard Bayer images.

Interesting, Tom. Thanks for the input.

The red/pink highlights are analyzed in this link you just posted:

Thanks! Yes, I recall reading that section a few days ago.

I have to say that I am less interested in actually using the Quad approach than your good self.

Probably because I have my 20MP G9 set to output low-res sRGB JPEGs which are adequate for my purpose and I still have the SD9 for mega-sharp work ...

SD9 ... best "microcontrast" on the planet, especially beyond Nyquist ...
