This does cure base ISO noise reduction concerns if shooting RAW.
I`ve noticed in Capture one RAW that the G5X-II is no softer than a RX100 series camera at the wide end and a lot sharper at the long end so the results from DPR`s comparator must be down to LRs old NR-adding algorithm at base ? . the lens is every bit as sharp as the G7X series (and G5X Mk1) optic but with a lot less issues such as distortion, Halation, CA and those funky areas which pop up from time to time - is it perfect , of course not, - the 1" crown lies with the RX10 Mk3/4 and that superb but massive optic but I`d say the G5X-II has the best compromise out off all the 1" compact lens options ,..
There are niggles canon could probably address in firmware but in their typical fashion never will .....
1:- there`s no way of turning off the ability to move the focus point on the back screen without turning off the whole touchscreen - with panasonic for instance you can do this and retain the Touchpad AF (for EVF use) and all the other touchscreen features .. I`m forever finding the AF point in the corner of the screen with canons as I`ve touched the LCD by accident
2:- the smallest AF point is massive - again take a look at what Panasonic (THE KIngs of Contrast detect) have been doing for over 10 years with fully variable sized AF point . the one in the Canons harks back to the S90 !!
3:- as you mentioned RLight - why no tracking in continuous shot mode ? , there are cameras out there with far less CPU power than the Mk2 to do this
4- the JPG engine is still Phone City (all crude mush and haloes) - when will they put the fine detail JPG engine which even the M50 has in their compacts ? - OK Fujis have plastic JPGs too but thats XTrans for ya - I expect more from canon , these G series cams have the same settings but you can set the fineness as fine as you like but the JPGs still look like they`ve been spewed from an iPhone 6S ........... RAW really unleashes what these cameras can do , especially in a converter like capture one with no hidden junk applied in the background
