OK, I did do some tests today and I have to conclude with both my Canon T7i (800D) and Canon M50 Mark II cameras, the colors were better and more realistic when I changed to cloudy white balance as compared to AWB (under cloudy skies). The only problem I had was that it was partly cloudy today, so the sunlight was there and gone repeatedly. So later I just left everything to be AWB.

Dig,

Yes. In rapidly changing lighting conditions, it's hard to judge where to set your WB.

In cloudy conditions, where the light is cool, the Cloudy setting will bring out a little warmth -  the greens and reds.

In bright, sunny weather, where the light is warm, the Daylight setting will bring in a little coolness - the blues and yellows.

Like you said, in rapidly changing conditions, when you want to take a lot of pictures, and you don't have the time to fiddle with your settings, Auto WB may be the way to go.

Article after article,  and even your camera manual will tell you that Auto WB is the way to go in most shooting conditions. I was just personally not very happy with the results I was getting.

Like you, I use Auto ISO; but that's because I'm not anywhere good enough yet to know where to put it. I let the camera figure it out.
