I was reading on the TCON-17X 1.7x teleconverter. This could be a great option for me since I am looking for more range. It's not clear to me if it gives you access to the full range when attached or only full tele?
I'll add a late welcome to the forum, I just saw this, I've been inactive, sporadic at best.

There is simply nothing else like the Stylus 1, many of us buy spares. I worked hard to learn mine, posted my setup suggestions here:
https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3729814
My advice:
1. buy a spare when you see a good deal
2. try/learn the 2X feature (in-camera crop and in-camera upscale back to 12mp).
you get (ALL F2.8) camera 28-300mm optical + 2X: 301-600mm in ONE Jacket Pocket.
3. Get thee a TCON 1.7X, you will love it. 28-510mm optical + 2X: 511 to 1,020mm.
Did I say 1,020mm F2.8? Yes I did! Amazing.
In TWO Jacket Pockets, nicely balanced, while walking about
or, in a Shoulder Bag loose or with it attached, this one is only 9" long (that's an rx100m1 in pants pocket case alongside the barrel).

you need an adapter tube which allows the camera's lens to extend within/behind the conversion lens

This vacation package is Oly; Plus 1.7X; Plus rx100m6; Plus MagFilter CPL ...

I simply mix and match my bags as needed, the base Stylus fits the brown belt/shoulder bag

Oly 2X is better than Sony's similar CIZ in three ways
1. Image Quality
better results, so good it is hard to recognize it was used.
2. Implementation
Oly's 2X is a toggle, INSTANTLY doubling any optical focal length, and instantly back to optical original. After you instantly double, you can zoom further in or out, and instantly return to optical from anywhere.
Sony's is a slow progressive zoom, slow into extra reach and slow back out. You have to first zoom to the end of optical, then zoom bit by bit into CIZ.
3. information
Sony: you will need to dig into the photo's EXIF properties to find out IF and what amount of CIZ was used. (see Digital Zoom info)
Oly: if you remember to tell the camera in the menu that the tele lens (or wide lens) is on, the camera will do the 1.7x (or 0,8x) math for you, showing the effective 35mm equivalent in EXIF.
My Stylus 1 is my Sports Camera (4 active grandkids), lots of fast bright reach.
When the children were just beginning, when I could walk the sidelines, I could use my rx100m1 f1.8 quite effectively. when the fields get bigger, not allowed along the sidelines, the bright reach of the Stylus 1 is needed.
In good light, the Sony m6 or m7, using 280mm SMART ZOOM (10mp image size/in-camera optical crop) is darn good, but it will be f4.5

Panasonic. Not for me.
years ago, prior to the longer reach Sony m6,m7 I tried a longer reach Pany. Detailed shootout, the Sony bested it for Image Quality of base and extended Jpegs
and, I did not like the Pany Jpeg Colors.
