sharp eyes - sharp hair strands - looks like stopped down a bit since everything is not whipped out-- good for fashion photography

Exactly!

if I were doing this type of photography, I'd use my 100L @ F3.5 on my RP -- which headshot photographers in studio have told me gives them better results than the 85 f1.2 L II @ F3.5 because they can handhold with IS .

Indeed. I’ve got a good (pro) friend who uses the EF 100L for a lot of his headshots! Loves it.

you have the R5 + RF 100 L -- that is what I'd be using at F3.5 if I were you -- settings given to me by one of the top headshot photographers in the country

Yeah, not only for the additional DOF, but the EF 100L sharpens up nicely when stopped down a bit. I haven’t used the RF version for anything except macros yet tho, so don’t know what its full capabilities are quite yet.

For my own fashion/env. portrait shooting, I do much prefer the flexibility of a zoom though, especially as the RF versions (28-70 and 70-200) are so freaking stellar. In the old days (of the DSLR ) however, a prime was almost always required to squeeze maximum detail out. But I’m finding more and more now, that the new zooms are often just as capable!

those zooms are

but give the RF 100 L a try at F3.5

if any bokeh balls in the backdrop -- the RF 100L is the bokeh master

And when used in an appropriate manner (to the subject), even the basic EF-M kit zooms can be incredibly fun and useful too!!
