We got a good number of creative responses to my challenge on you got past the feeling "there was nothing to shoot" and created a keeper anyway. Thanks to all for the great images.
My selections are, of course, highly personal responses to how the images struck me individually, so that said, here goes...
Runner-up
GetBG's sad cat

That's a face full of character if I've ever seen one! The expression, marks on his (?) nose and soft light come together to tell a story.
Funny side note: I had this image on my screen, greatly zoomed in to see only the eyes / nose on my 24" monitor. One of our cats jumped up on my desk then abruptly stepped back and froze when she saw the image. I guess that speaks volumes!
Runner-up
benjilafouine's still life

As I've stated before, I can get lost in detailed images of someone else's every day life. This one kept my attention for quite a while. It's interesting that while I might consider the "details of my life" boring at times, I'm often captured by someone else's. Maybe my personal familiarity breeds contempt?
Runner-up
arrow501's phone cable

This is simple but engaging to my eye. The combination of the texture, light / shadow, strong diagonal elements and the isolated blue color of the cable is very graphical. Nice!
Third Place
The Light Stalker's clams

There's something about this that's cool. I know it's just a plate of clams, but it's visually abstracted into something else. At times I even see a choir with open mouths and tongues extended as they sing their hearts out! LOL Lots of texture contrasts. Well done!
Second Place
ellare's leaves

Form, color, light, darkness, motion, negative space - It's all here. This is a good example of what I was reaching for with my challenge. Of course, there are always a thousand ways to get there, but you definitely nailed it.
First Place
Sue Anne Rush's sunrise

Yeah, I'm a sucker for pretty sunrise / sunset photos!
This is well done - The leaves at the top give life to a sky that would otherwise probably be cropped down, the mist divides up the depth into layers and the colors are beautiful without going over the top. Very nicely done and congratulations on your First Place image!
So, Sue Anne, it's up to you now - Surprise us with our next challenge!
