Moving from 7D to M series; pros and cons?
2

I've been using my 7D less over the past couple of years. I think the size/weight and the lack of video AF are two big reasons. The stills it takes are still top notch and the AF is mostly able to keep up with the kids. So I've been looking at mirrorless options that won't break the bank. Staying with Canon means I can keep my lenses with an adapter, so that's more saved $$.

Looking through reviews I think the best choices are the M50 mii or the M6 mii. I noticed the M6 doesn't have an EVF which I would want to use for all my still shooting. Does the accessory EVF provide the same experience? And I guess that means I can't use a flash when using the EVF? The M50 looks pretty reliable and comes with the EVF so that's a big plus.

For performance, how much of a difference will I notice? I currently shoot in RAW, and my PP skills are pretty basic. I print some pictures but max rarely/never bigger than ~18"x12". Will I notice a difference in picture quality? Video is fine at whatever resolution works best as long as the results look good. These will just be for family memories so don't need anything too fancy. How about AF? Can the mirrorless versions keep up with the 7D or at least not feel like I'm waiting for them (like during live view on my 7D)?

Anything else I should consider before making the jump? Will my 430 speedlite still work?

Thanks for the help!
