The Rp has a mic/headphone jack on the side already. You'll have to use that. The USB is only for data transfer or charging.

Cameras aren't running a full OS like a phone or computer, so there is nothing to detect and configure other USB devices like that when they are plugged in. It is more like a USB accessory itself, rather than a computer to connect them to. It's a USB device, not a USB host, if that makes any sense.

If you are looking to record to a lav mic on the cheap, without running a wire to the camera, just use a cheapo wired mic connected to your phone in your pocket. Record to your phone and sync audio in post, and then drop the camera audio from the final output. Once you learn how it takes like 60 seconds to match it up to the video in almost any video editor. (Helps if you do a loud clap or something at the start of the clip to have an obvious sync point)
