Interesting...I will have to try a direct comparison of Nikon NEF's with X3F files from my original Sigma DP1.

I did try the prescribed process in DarkTable using Nikon NEF raw files from a Nikon D300 & 35mm f/1.8 lens. The final jpg's do look more detailed than the same NEF's processed directly in CaptureOne 22 or Raw Photo Processor 64 (RPP). I will not comment on "Foveon" colour as the three different software applications rendered colour and white balance differently using auto WB settings.

Attached are the images rendered in Darktable - exposure was manually changed to avoid highlight clipping.
