Re: Looking at Canon EOS R kits

They really feel I should be looking at the R6 rather than the RP (I do a lot of landscapes, birds, backyard wildlife and would like to improve my mostly-miss BIF pix)
R5 owner here. I've never used an R or RP, but have read and watched a ton of reviews on them, so that is my basis of comparison here + although not completely apples to apples comparison, I owned a Nikon Z6, which is the same generation as the R. Different manufacturers, yes, but, even at launch, both AF systems were criticized as not as capable as mature DSLRs. Based on my use w/ the Z6, I agree, though I enjoyed it in every other significant aspect a camera is judged on.
That said, if BIF and wildlife is a priority then the R6 is your best option of the ones you listed. This first time I used the R5 to shoot BIF I thought it was "magic." It's what turned me to Canon from Nikon. It's not perfect, but when there is a reasonably clear shot AF hones in on birds like an eagle to a fish. Yes, it's more expensive than the R, but for a good reason; it's a body designed for this purpose.
I also have the 24-240 as a "walk around" lens. For $800-900 it's a fantastic lens for the range and clarity it offers -- I think it just had a price increase, but since it's a consumer lens perhaps a dealer would price it better in conjunction w/ a body purchase. Yes, avoid shooting at the extreme ends, but even if you do, it's nothing that can't be fixed in PS or LR or whatever editor you use. BTW you can get an inexpensive "JCC" branded hood for it on Amazon for like $15. I really wish Canon wasn't so cheap and just included these w/ their non-L lenses, or at least didn't vastly overprice theirs.
