The single purpose lenses like the RF 600/800mm primes with a fixed f/11 aperture are not ones I would care to own. The RF 100-400mm is a lens begging for an APS-C camera.

It's more the opposite, these lenses seem to be designed with APS-C users in mind. You're not going to get the full benefits of a full frame due to the dimmer aperture, but you aren't losing much in terms of somehting like depth of field. Their narrow apertures seems nasty to full-frame and it's true you do lose out on light, but their DOF is roughly equivalent to how faster lenses would appear on APS-C. For example the 100-400 is equivalent to a 250mm f5, so it's roughly a spiritual successor to the EF-S 55-250mm (and to some extent the 70-300).  I got the 800 f11 because my 150-600mm had focusing issues and I was losing out on focal length. This lens is equivalent to a 500mm f7.1 mounted on an APS-C.  (I generally stopped down to f8-f9 anyways on the 150-600 due to softness at the longer focal lengths). There are certain situations where the 150-600 still works faster at acquiring focus, but I feel far more confident with the results from the 800mm.
