Re: Looking at Canon EOS R kits

My youngest painted that, but the glue isn’t holding up in the winter. I have some repairs to do when the weather turns.

Right off, it crazy light weight for a full frame lens with this reach. Its actually lighter than my 24-240 lens that’s the normal walk around lens I use. And it’s not much longer.

It’s not for early morning or late evening unless you’re okay with pushing the ISO’s (which most of the newer full frames can handle just fine anyway). I’ll be using it for mid-day soccer games and vacation in Florida, so I expect plenty of light. I will also use it while hiking and found it very easy to one hand it while walking around, which is crazy for a 100-400. I can’t imagine in would need a tripod color either as it’s so light.

Brand new, so the build is tight.  It has a locking switch so it doesn’t telescope on you when you don’t want it to. The focus and zoom rings feel natural where they are, but the control ring will take getting used to. A bit of a reach. Not bad, just different than my other RF glass.
