Hi. I had the same problem and the solution is simple but odd

The ON/OFF when used with all three batteries only works for the MEIKE REMOTE CONTROL!

If you want to use it, and talk to the grip, the ON/OFF button has to be on the ON position for the remote control to work and sync.

Hope that helps. It took me about 1 year to find out this because there's nothing on the manual telling us about that.
