More specifically combining a M.2 2230 NVMe SSD in a CFexpress Type B housing. as described here .

If so, please tell which SSD you're considering, and, once completed, how it is working, and in particular if you have any overheating issue, any useful tip about putting the parts together, and performance (how many lossless compressed raw images at 30FPS until the camera throttles down the FPS).

Please stay on topic. You're welcome to start a thread whether you'd risk it, think it's worth it, etc. in another thread. This thread is to answer specifically the questions asked above.

If you purchase a $5k+ camera - and want to save a penny by making up your own storage with cheap Chinese adaptors - you are not valuing your camera investment very high.

A lot of NVMe SSD drives become VERY hot. That might impact your camera both over long time and short time. There are lot of electronics components in a camera that have a certain heat capacity - like capacitors have X number of hours @ Y temperature. On CFExpress cards they have at least "considered" the heat.

So EVEN if it works now - the long term implications of using it - are not small - and might not show until 2-3 years from you start doing it.

Apart from that you risk processing interference as lots of cheap SSD drives are electronically noisy. So you put a "noise source" inside your camera.   Again CFExpress purpose made storage - have considered such issues.

Last but not least - there is a reason Nikon and others have an "Approved" list of memory cards. The issues above are probably part of it.

So while I'm all for experimenting with electronics as someone with a background in Electronics Engineering - I would be hesitant to ever use such a contraption for any length of time in my personal cameras.
