Err 70 with Godox TT685 on Canon R6
Jan 30, 2022
So, this is a bit of a strange one. I’ve been shooting all day using my R6 with and without flash with no issues . I came home and decided to change the setup of my Custom settings. I set C1 up on an AV setting for shooting action/sport etc and then set C2 as a manual setup at 1/125 sec for a quick go to when using flash. I attached my Godox TT685 to test the setting and all hell broke loose! I was getting error 70 messages, the live view was showing bright though set to reflect shooting settings and when I half pressed the shutter button to focus the flash was firing. I reset flash and camera settings, disconnected the battery and tried again with the same results.
I then disconnected the flash from the hotshoe and the camera behaved as normal. Reattached flashgun and everything went haywire again.
I switched from the C2 setting to Manual but the problem was still there.
So, I contacted Amazon to arrange a replacement flashgun which they readily accepted.
Then, I thought to try changing the batteries in the flash as I noticed the low battery indicator on the LCD screen was showing (the flashgun was charging reasonably quickly though, so you would have thought the batteries were OK) and everything worked flawlessly again.
My assumption is that low power in the Godox flash batteries causes error messages in the R6.
Hope this info is of some use to anyone experiencing the same issue.
