Focus Distance Indicator
1

Does someone have an idea how the Focus Distance Indicator works?

My guess is that the lens reports that information back to the camera based on the position of a gear driving the focus mechanism. If calibrated correctly, that should provide some accurate feedback. And it does with some lenses, mostly focal lenghts 35mm and up. Below 35mm, it is a bit more "by chance". Can that be related to the small travel that the focus mechanism has in a wide angle lens?

Accuracy certainly also depends on how precisely the flange distance is between lenses.

Wonder Fuji can improve on the accuracy cause I would find accurate distance (and DoF) info quite helpful.
