A77V replacing Sigma 18-250 with Tamron 16-300

My goal is to have a very long zoom, primarily for use while on cruises. I shoot JPG + RAW and I use Lightroom and Photoshop but I rarely edit pictures.

I typically make slide shows or movies that combine pictures and videos to document our trips. These are viewed on a widescreen 4K TV.

My current lenses are a Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 (IF) DX II; a Sony DT 16–50 mm F2.8 SSM SAL1650; and a Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC (OS)* MACRO HSM. I also have a Kenko Teleplus MC4 AF 1.4 DGX teleconverter.

I've long considered the Sigma 50-500 lens for those long shots from a cruise ship to the shore but I'm put off by the size and weight during use and adding that much to my luggage.

I'm considering replacing the Sigma 18-250 with a Tamron 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro. In addition to the greater zoom range using the teleconverter would increase the max zoom from 350 to 420.

Has anyone used the Tamron 16-300 with a 1.4 or even a 2.0 teleconverter?

Recommendations?
