SUCCESS!
Hey Larry, many thanks for all you've posted about this MOD. It's a great addition to the camera bag, and even moreso a great addition to the Forum!!
I took the TC apart again (for like the umpteen millionth time) and this time I stretched out the springs a tiny bit (about 1mm). Put it all back together and SUCCESS!!
I gotta run to work now, but many thanks again!

Congrats on the mint lens and your eventual success with the TC mod R2!
My lens arrived yesterday while I was at a job interview down in London, and the adapter was delivered this morning. All good! Nice clean lens with snappy autofocus and fantastic IS. Here's a crop of an ornament on the windowsill, handheld at 1/30. Amazing.

Just waiting for the metal EF conversion backplate for the lens now, and I'll become a fully paid up member of the 1.5x55-250 club!
Yep, looks like a good one! I have not heard of much copy variation with the EF-S 55-250 though, they seem to be pretty consistent.
To answer your previous question, I have not yet gotten a chance to do Milky Way photography with the Rokinon 8mm yet, waiting for a nice dark night and a chance to drive to darker skies!
I see from the EXIF data you have an M6 (not the Mark ii). I think it will be able to autofocus in good light with the zoom at 250mm x 1.5 teleconverter at equivalent f8, but might struggle in lower light. I had an M6 prior to the M6 Mark ii and the M6;s low light AF was 2-3 EV behind the M6ii. If you are planning to remove the electronics from the TC, I'd suggest testing the 55-250 x 1.5 combo well and find out its capabilities before the removal, It should work better after the removal.
I recall the M6 had trouble autofocusing with my original M6 and a 2x MC7 TC with Kiron optics (f11 equivalent). At that time I did not have a 1.5x TC. The M6 Mark ii has no trouble with that combo, or even a 3x tele that I made with vintage Soligar 3x optics, or a 2x MC7 with vintage Kiron optics stacked with the Kenko 1,5x,
Hi Larry, and thanks for the advice. I'm a low budget hobbyist and have learned to accept the limitations of being a few years behind the tech curve with the second user equipment I buy. If the 55-250 struggles in lower light with the TC I'll adopt the pragmatic solution of removing the TC and cropping into the image If I can't walk closer to my subject for whatever reason.
I'd love to upgrade to the M6ii and just heard I got the job I interviewed in London for yesterday, so that happy day might be sooner than expected.
