Hood for shooting with Nikkor 20mm 1.8G on DX body in snow ?

The first photos during the last days in the snow turned out great, but as soon as I faced the direction it was snowing from, I got droplets on the filter and had to stop and wipe them off.

The hood that comes with this FX lens (HB-72) is tiny and a longer hood should definitely help, since I'm using it on a DX body. I'm looking at the chart below, and HB-40 or HB-48 look like they might work better.

Could these hoods work on the 20mm Nikkor with its 77mm filter size ? Will they produce little or significant vignetting ? Could some of it be corrected ?
